What Kind of Kitchen Sink Should You Choose?

Designing for new kitchen countertops doesn’t just mean choosing the right stone slab. For many families, it also means an opportunity to update your sink and faucet!

With all the options out there, we know the decision can be a little overwhelming. Here are a few of our favorites to help you get started.

You Want: A workhorse sink that won’t crack under pressure.
You Need: A stainless steel sink.

Stainless steel is a fan favorite for a reason. Nearly impossible to break, stainless steel sinks look great with almost any design aesthetic. Great for families who are prone to tossing their dishes into the sink after dinner, or for folks who just want something that looks nice and gets the job done.

You Want: A timelessly beautiful sink to set off your farmhouse look.
You Need: A porcelain sink.

There’s no doubt about it—porcelain sinks are some of the prettiest fixtures on the market. If you’re looking for something that will catch your visitors’ eyes without ever looking too showy or trendy, porcelain is the way to go. One word of caution though: porcelain sinks can be a little fragile, so this option is best for families who don’t mind a little maintenance and/or who aren’t rough on their appliances.

You Want: A jaw-dropping, statement piece.
You Need: A marble, quartz, or quartzite sink.

Want to really turn heads? Natural stone sinks are stunning without being overly opulent. Choose a stone sink that matches your countertops for a seamless look, or go bold with a contrasting color.

You Want: Something classic, yet earthy, sophisticated, and unique.
You Need: A copper sink.

Love the durability of stainless steel, but wish it wasn’t so basic? Copper sinks are a great alternative! They look beautiful and hold up well to daily use. If you’re concerned about noisiness, ask for a model that’s designed to minimize clattering, and you’ll be good to go! One note: copper sinks will change a bit over time. Much like a copper penny, your copper sink will develop a rich patina. If you love fixtures with some character, you’ll likely enjoy watching your sink settle and change. However, if you’re a bit of a perfectionist and/or you value uniformity, you might want to do your research first.
